Clinical Supervision Services

Supervision Philosophy

I view clinical supervision as a collaborative and developmental relationship focused on helping counselors grow in clinical competence, ethical integrity, and professional confidence. My ideal supervisee is a Christian counselor who desires to integrate their faith with their clinical work in a thoughtful and ethical way.

My Role as a Supervisor

As a supervisor, I see myself as both a guide and a gatekeeper. I am committed to walking alongside supervisees as they develop their skills while also upholding the standards of the counseling profession and protecting the clients they serve. I take this responsibility seriously and will provide honest, constructive feedback when growth is needed.

Expectations of Supervisees

I expect supervisees to come prepared to our sessions, to engage in honest self-reflection, and to be open to feedback. I value supervisees who take ownership of their learning, follow through on goals, and demonstrate a sincere desire to grow both professionally and personally. Accountability is an important part of our work together, and I will address concerns directly and respectfully.

Feedback and Accountability

My feedback style is honest, direct, and supportive. I aim to affirm strengths while also identifying areas for growth in a way that is clear and actionable. I believe that timely, constructive feedback helps supervisees develop the skills and self-awareness needed for independent practice.

Professional Growth and Ethical Practice

Professional growth is central to supervision. I am committed to helping you develop not only your clinical skills but also your professional identity, ethical reasoning, and integrity in practice. I regularly assess progress and create space for reflection on your counselor development. Ethical decision-making is a key focus of our work. I will help you navigate complex situations with thoughtfulness and care, always prioritizing client well-being and adherence to professional standards.

Integrating Faith and Clinical Work

Because my ideal supervisee is a Christian counselor, I welcome integrating faith into our supervision when it is consistent with professional ethics. I aim to help supervisees integrate their faith in a way that feels both authentic and ethically sound, while maintaining strong ethical boundaries and learning to thoughtfully hold the tension between personal faith and clinical practice.

Commitment to Competent Practice

Above all, I am committed to competent clinical practice — both in my own work and in the supervision I provide. This includes not only strong clinical skills but also ethical decision-making, professionalism, and self-awareness. I hold myself to high standards and expect the same from supervisees. My goal is to help you develop the knowledge, skills, and professional character needed to practice independently with confidence, integrity, and care.

Supervision Format and Structure

Supervision sessions are typically held weekly and last 60 minutes. Sessions may be conducted in person or via secure telehealth, depending on what works best for you. I believe consistent, regular supervision provides the best opportunity for growth and accountability, though I’m also open to discussing alternative frequencies based on your needs and stage of professional development.

I offer both individual and *group supervision, depending on your preferences and needs:

  • Individual Supervision: Provides personalized attention, deeper case exploration, and focused feedback tailored to your specific clinical work and professional goals.
  • Group Supervision: Offers the benefit of learning from peers, gaining multiple perspectives, and developing skills in a collaborative environment.

Many supervisees choose a combination of both formats. *Please note that group supervision availability may vary depending on the number of supervisees currently seeking services.

Iowa Requirements To become independently licensed as a mental health counselor in Iowa, supervisees must complete a minimum of 2 years of supervised clinical experience. This includes:

  • At least 3,000 total hours of supervised clinical practice
  • At least 1,500 hours of direct client contact
  • At least 110 hours of direct supervision (with a maximum of 50 hours from group supervision)

I will work with you to ensure your supervision hours are properly documented and aligned with Iowa Board requirements.

I offer tele-supervision using a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform. This option provides flexibility while maintaining the quality and confidentiality of our work together. Whether we meet in person or virtually, I am committed to creating a consistent, supportive, and professional supervisory relationship.

Areas of Clinical Expertise

I have extensive experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and couples across a variety of clinical settings, including community mental health, residential treatment, military settings, and private practice. My clinical work is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), with an integration of faith-based principles when the client welcomes it. In Supervision, I draw from this experience to help supervisees strengthen their skills in areas such as:

1

Case conceptualization and diagnosis

2

Treatment planning and evidence-based interventions

3

Risk assessment and crisis management

4
